goes back to the year 1912, when the de Sanchos and the Ferreiros arrived
from Spain. Following their ancestors’ tradition, both families, separately
and without knowing each other, worked in the ham business. In 1943 Marceliano de Sancho married Amparo Ferreiro, and the result of this union was the creation of the Don Sancho Ham Factory, located where our hostel is today. Their children, Blanca and Alberto, also continued the family tradition, making Don Sancho hams – which were served at the best restaurants around Argentina. But in the year 2002, Paula, the founder’s granddaughter, and her childhood friend, Mariana, made the biggest change in the history of the company: they turned it into a youth hostel!! However, behind the lodging appearance that Don Sancho Hostel offers, lies the hidden spirit of the old factory: the pipes that today make up the beds, held uncountable hams yesterday; the kitchen tables were used to season and wrap the hams; and the study room still has the door of the cold store that it once was. |
